21JPSI’s second national conference on U.S.-Japan relations, held online due to COVID-19. This virtual conference brought together leading scholars, think tank experts, and policymakers to discuss this crucial bilateral relationship. Following introductory remarks by the Consul-General of Japan in Chicago, it featured three panels of experts from Japan, the United States, and Europe. They explored foreign policy challenges in East Asia, Australian and European allies’ perspectives on the U.S.-Japan alliance, and domestic policy challenges facing the United States and Japan. Read the recap.

21JPSI’s inaugural national conference on U.S.-Japan relations. The conference—the first of its kind at Indiana University—brought together leading experts on US-Japan relations and other influential voices from Indiana to discuss the current state and desired future of this crucial bilateral relationship. Well over 100 students, faculty, staff, and members of the Bloomington and greater Indiana community gathered at the Hamilton Lugar School to hear remarks by the Consul-General of Japan in Chicago, a representative of the Indiana State government, an academic keynote, and two expert panels—on foreign policy and domestic challenges, respectively. Read the recap.
